Rhymer’s Route – 14.5 km/ 9 miles
A long walk, which links places associated with the myths and legends surrounding the historical figure of Thomas the Rhymer. There are some steep gradients.
Passing through the Eildon Hills to Bowdenmoor Reservoir, then, by Lady Moss to reach Cauldshiels Hill overlooking Cauldshiels Loch.
The return to Melrose is by Rhymer’s Glen, originally part of Scott’s Abbotsford Estate, to Darnick and along the old railway line.
START AND FINISH
Abbey car park Buccleuch Street.
Allow 5+ hours.
Paths, tracks and stretches of open country. Some stretches can be muddy. Steep gradients in places. Boots or walking shoes are recommended.
