A moderate walk with some gradients; which extends Walk 3 by exploring the open countryside north of
Gattonside. Pass by Housebyres and the Byres Lochs before returning down the Southern Upland Way, then
through Gattonside to cross back over the river to Melrose.
Start and Finish: Abbey car park Buccleuch Street.
Time: Allow 4 hours
Terrain: Minor roads and mostly good paths, although some stretches could be muddy after rain. Moderate gradients
in places.
Boots or walking shoes are recommended.
Toilets: Abbey Street near car park.
